First Christmas

First of all, Merry Christmas!

There is always a first for everything and now it's our turn for the "first" Christmas of the AuBuchon family. We are in Camdenton right now watching "A Christmas Story" in the basement of Micah's parent's house. We hadn't planned on coming until tomorrow afternoon, but because of the arrival of a storm we left this afternoon. So far there has only been drizzle, but inches of snow is expected for tomorrow. Hopefully we will have a white Christmas!

Earlier this week we went to Lebanon to visit my (Jill's) extended family. It was great to see everyone and spend time eating good food, playing games, basketball, cards, and pool. Last night we were able to spend Christmas with my family in Ozark. We were blessed with many gifts that we can't wait to put to use! We also opened presents a day early here with Micah's family and got a ton more to haul home! If we don't post for awhile (which is typical... :) ) it is because we are trying to knock of a few of the two dozen movies we received!

We wish you all a very Merry Christmas and hope that it is filled with love, laughter, and quality time with family and friends. Save time to remember the real reason we are celebrating this time of year and praise our Lord for all he has blessed us with!

Friends from the past ...

Isnt it cool when you meet up with "old" friends? Not old in age :) but from the past. Jill and I had that opportunity recently. Here it is ...

I believe I was in 7th grade when Kris and Jen Howell came to Willow Springs. Kris was the crazy guy who was starting a youth outreach program for the students of Willow. I can't remember where I met Kris but I thought he was a wicked cool guy. We played basketball every once in a while but mostly being an annoying 7th grader I just wanted to 'hang out'. So being nice people Kris and Jen put up with me :).

Kris and I have kept up some over facebook and email saying hi every once in a while. We would put "What About Bob?" quotes on each others facebook everyonce in a while but never anything more. Well randomly last Wednesday I got a facebook message from Kris saying he would be in Springfield and he noticed I lived there now. He said he'd like to meet up if we could. I gave him my cell phone number thinking I probably wont really get to see he and Jen. I figured since it was Thanksgivingg the next day more than likely we wouldnt see them. However, not an a hour after I left my message I got a call from a random number. Since I was in meeting and didnt know who it was I didnt bother to try to answer and I didnt even think it would be Kris.

Sure enough I had a voice mail saying "Dont be screenin' my call. Hit me back, its Kris." I laughed out loud and instantly began remembering all the fun times we had. Here are some examples ... making snow angels in shorts, playing guitar with Jen, staying up til 4 AM making a "scary movie" and of course who could forget begging Kris to let me in to the "high school" meetings at Heaven Scent Pizza. Since I was not highschool yet technically I wasnt supposed to come to the meetings but Kris was a nice guy!

Anyway, we were able to get together and share about life and laugh for a while. They were able to meet Jill and that made me happy of course. Not only did Jill and I share where life has taken us in our short marriage but also where God's leading us to pursue ministry. It was great to see Kris and Jen and to renew a friendship. Kris and Jen are living in Tennesse where Kris is a youth pastor. They have four very adorable kids and seem rather happy where God has placed them.

We laughed a ton and took some silly pictures to remember the evening. I thought I should share them. I hope you enjoyed reading it as much as I enjoyed writing. Past friendships are great to allow you to remember the times you shared and the memories you made. It's also great because it gives you a new friendship that is only based out of the past. Now going forward Jill and I are excited to keep in conact with the Night Howells and see what God does in their life, ministry and family. You should check out their blog titled "The Night Howells". Jen and Kris do a great job letting you know what's going on in their life. Thanks for reading, now go check their blog out!
